Yubara Onsen Hakkei, located in Okayama Prefecture, has committed to cage-free.This ryokan has been serving only locally produced “Asahi no Kagayaki” cage-free eggs from Yubara, Maniwa City, and they also told us that they will be using cage -free eggs to make mayonnaise in their own kitchen from now on.Hakkei also offers vegan dishes with prior notice, as they want all customers to enjoy their cuisine. The proprietress of Hakkei, Ms. Kamishio, also has a deep love for animals and is active in the rescue of shelter dogs and cats. She is also deeply concerned about the poor conditions in which livestock animals are kept. She is concerned about the future promotion of animal welfare because she wants animals to live happily, at least while they are alive. She also kindly agreed with the cage-free movement in Japan. Why the Need to Go Cage-Free?In Japan, the conditions in which animals are kept are often hidden from the public and rarely known, but any animals in Japan are still kept in a manner that is not very humane. One such example is the raising of egg-laying hens. More than 90% of egg-laying hens in Japan are kept in cages, where they live 24 hours a day, 365 days a year as egg-laying machines crammed into a cage that is smaller than a sheet of iPad. Some are kept in windowless poultry houses, where even sunlight is blocked out. These rearing practices are so inhumane that demand for cage-free eggs has grown overseas, and the cruel cage rearing practices are being phased out one by one.Caged Eggs Leaving the WorldCage egg rearing, which is based solely on production efficiency, has been banned by law in the EU and other countries around the world, and is on its way to being phased out. In our own country, Japan, many consumers, and companies are beginning to move away from the cruel cage eggs produced by unhealthy hens raised in unnatural ways. Will you and your company make the decision to move to cage-free eggs to keep up with the tide of cage-free?▶︎190 companies!
