Imports of fur-lined clothing had been on a steady decline for the past six years, but in 2025 they began to increase at a slackening rate. With the increase in consumer awareness in Japan, the volume of animal furs handled had been clearly seen to be declining from store shelves, but this was not the case according to figures from trade statistics.
Fortunately, the number of raw and tanned fur pelts was reduced by half. Together, these increased the number of animals sacrificed in 2025 by 21,203, for a total of 210,842.
Fur is inhumane and unsustainable, which should be zero. But zero is still a long way off. If you lay it out on a graph, it may be a slight increase, not a change in the trend so far.
But they are sacrifices that should have been made, sacrifices that could have been made, and each animal was born in a cage, spent the spring and summer in a cage, and was dragged out of the cage to be killed, a life of nothing but pain and fear. We must not allow this to happen.
In 2026, we need everyone’s help to ensure that there are no more sacrifices for furries and that we get as close to zero as possible. Please help us to reduce the sacrifice for furries to zero.
