On February 19, I had the opportunity to petition the Minister of the Environment, Mr. Keiichiro Asao, through Mr. Kenko Matsuki, a member of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan. We requested that the Ministry of the Environment correct the fact that more than 85% of poultry slaughterhouses do not have prior unconsciousness treatment at poultry slaughterhouses because there is no penalty, even though the Animal Protection Law and its standards already state that such treatment is to be done. Minister Asao responded that this was the first time he had learned of such an issue, and of course he could not reach a conclusion on the spot, but we hope that he will be mindful of the suffering of the chickens and give us a more heartfelt answer in future committee questions.
