This means, setting a deadline like 2025 or 2030, and promising consumers to shift eggs used within the company to cage-free.

Consumers do not want caged rearing that torture chickens.  With existing measures for improvement, and realized in other countries, we cannot be convinced that it’s not possible only in Japan.

Not working on animal welfare means degrading evaluation in the global economy.  The days when doing nothing and not making decisions are acceptable are in the past.

The “Egg-Smart declaration” is promising consumers to reduce or eliminate eggs, with a certain deadline.  By reducing the number of eggs used in a product from 2 to 1, or by being creative and cooking without eggs, etc, animal welfare can be improved by going away from mass production and mass consumption.

Data from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare have revealed that eating one egg a day results in too much cholesterol consumption.  This is an important choice both for animals and for the health of the consumers.

AEON

In 2020, AEON began selling private brand cage-free eggs. Also, it has promised to the media, and therefore the consumers, that it will increase the locations offering them in 2020, and will expand the offer to the whole country by 2022.

We have recognized AEON’s stance that announced its will to work on animal welfare and has made a promised to the consumers with deadlines.

In 2019, LUSH Japan has eliminated cage-free eggs from all its products, and has chosen to make them egg-free products.

LUSH Japan had already chosen cage-free eggs, but instead of stopping there, has chosen to go egg-free to further reduce suffering of animals, which we have recognized.

Nisshin Oillio Mayodore & Kewpie Eggcare, etc

These days it has unfortunately become common for eggs to be used in tempura batter… but it’s popular even without.
