To end animal suffering for furPlease sigh the petition now https://www.change.org/p/apparel-brand-in-asia-end-animal-suffering-for-fur-in-asiaIn 2017, 1,504,000 animals were slaughtered for fur sold in Japan. A number of companies including Gucci, Armani, Versace, Uniqlo, and H&M have chosen not to sell fur. Cities like San Francisco, West Hollywood, Berkeley, and Sao Paulo have banned the sale of fur. Fur expenditure in Japan is 80% less compared to that of 10 years ago. However, 2017 saw an increase in imported fur products compared to 2016. This is because the price of fur is dropping due to a great decrease of demand for fur worldwide. Japan is known as a civilized country. There is no longer any need for anyone to adorn their arms or necks with animals. There should be no animals who suffer and die for fur.Animals are suffering.Over 85% of all fur produced throughout the world comes from fur farms. Fur farms raise thousands to tens of thousands of animals. These farms with so many animals can never take animal welfare in to consideration. In fact, even in EU countries where animal welfare is said to be advanced, numerous cases of suffering are still seen such as dead minks whose heads are bitten off, untreated, sick and injured rabbits, and foxes who are fattened up to be almost 10 times bigger than normal size. These animals are trapped in metal cages. They often have their limbs caught and torn by wires and suffer from infection. Cannibalization, and other abnormal behavior, is regularly seen in these places. The method of slaughter is also cruel. They are beaten, suffocated to death, or electrocuted by sticking electrode bars in the mouth and anus. Many cases have been reported of animals being skinned alive in China. Video footage reveals skinned animals in the process of dying—some still blinking, raising their heads, and some crawling to escape—for several minutes or even longer before they finally die. The conditions in China haven’t changed. Animals experience unimaginable suffering. Both people and the environment suffer, too.Strong chemical agents with highly carcinogenic properties such as hexavalent chromium and formaldehyde are used to process fur. These chemical agents pollute rivers, groundwater, and soil in Chinese villages where fur is processed. In these areas, many people develop cancer. One of the primary causes of cancer in these villages is from the fur and leather tanning industry. In these “cancer villages”, children also die of cancer, and many people die before the age of 50. The fur industry also damages the ecological system. In Japan, American mink and nutria that have escaped from fur farms damage the indigenous ecosystem. This gives local authorities an excuse to keep killing a large number of mink and nutria in the wild. Furthermore, the production of 1kg of mink emits 28 times more global warming gas than the production of 1kg of polyester.Fur farms that have been driven away from Europe come to Asia.Ten European countries have banned fur farms. However, these countries’ fur industries have moved to China. Thus, they are still torturing animals. Their customers are consumers in China, Korea, Russia, and Japan.Let’s eliminate animal cruelty for fur in Japan.Let’s eliminate animal cruelty for fur in Asia and throughout the world!Choosing not to wear fur is easy.
