We (13 animal rights groups in east Asia) will be jointed together with the same aim for the first time to fight to end the use of fur worldwide.

East Asia is the biggest fur producing and consuming continent(reference page 2).
That is to say,when the places we live in eliminate the use of fur completely, the fur farming industry and the suffering of animals for fur will cease.
Mainly, Europe has been the one being a voice against the suffering but in this time and day, we, eastern Asians should and will be the ones to speak out. For that, we join forces to aim at this goal together. Stop the cruelty! No more fur for fashion!

Background

Production

We,Japan,declared that every single of fur farming was eliminated and zero fur production as of the end of last year.(released by media at the same day).Japanese production facilities were replaced by China and the numbers of productivity are growing every year.The sacrificed animals in 2015 was 75,100,000(with exception of Rabbit fur). The number of sacrificed rabbits for fur was higher significantly higher,which is 125,800,000 (2011) on the survey of ACTAsia.
There is none of fur farming in Taiwan,Korea.

Consumption

The figure of Japanese consumptions (import) of fur in 2015 was 1,670,000, according to the attics of Ministry of Finance .The number of import to Japan has been decreasing every year,still not the case for entire Asia.In China,production and consumption have been increasing respectively.In addition of the increased productivity led low costs and be accessible to consumers.The stuffed animals of rabbits using their real fur are becoming popular in both China and Taiwan.The animal fur charms throughout East Asia, sandals,earrings with fur are getting popular in Japan.

Fur processing village causing cancer

Fur farming industry is not just cruel to animals but also bad for environment and people’s health.In China,河北省、浙江省、広東省、山東省, ,in which there are dyeing or tanning process of facilities,damage their health and environment.The tap water and river were contaminated,being black and yellow.The contaminated water flew into river causing surrounding areas awful smell.The use of chemicals such as formaldehyde or hexavalent chromium for dying or tanning process contaminated the tap water,also water for farmland. In the areas of processing fur,there’re many so called “Cancer village”,in which many people suffering from cancer can even survive up to the age of 45.
Water in river goes to the ocean.This is not the thing yon can never take lightly.In addition,in Italy,the amount of formaldehyde and hexavalent chromium that exceeded the standard level were detected in clothing which were recalled urgently due to an issue of warning by EU.On the survey of Tokyo in 2009,the formaldehyde was detected in scarfs or hair accessories.

Movement to an empathy,ethical consumption

The fur industry is not just harming animals but also harming people and nature.The more people get aware of this serious situation,the more they get aware that the fur is unethical.Many of fast fashion clothing brands such as UNIQLO,GAP,H&M or luxurious brands of HUGO BOSS,ARMANI are shifting not to use real fur.On our survey (used by general survey company),only 8% of consumers want fur products willingly.Various generations consumers are supportive of an ethical way of consuming.

Since Chinese abusive fur farming industry have been disclosed in 2005,we,Animal Right Center has been campaigning,fighting for reducing the use of fur.NO FUR WALK this Dec will be the 11th anniversary since 2006.
To strengthen our force,we,East Asians,fight all together,aiming at NO FUR worldwide.
