Companies and Shops Newly Added to “The List of Cage-Free”

More companies agree with “cage-free eggs” initiatives.

What is the cage-free egg declaration?

It means that companies publicize their intention to switch all of their eggs to cage-free ones. This is being carried out by lots of companies worldwide.

Companies publicizing the cage-free egg declaration are now more than 180 in Japan, the number being expected to increase in future.

Battery cage rearing, a typical industrial livestock rearing method that cause serious environmental pollution, is considered so inhumane that it is being discontinued in international communities.

*Kioritei(Shibuya-ward)

A ramen noodle shop in Shibuya-ward, Tokyo. The owner learned about cage-free eggs before that they cause no stress to hens and are safe. As a result, he decided to use them. He says the reason cage-free eggs don’t spread in Japan would be extremely low prices of ordinary eggs (caged eggs).

They originally have used organic wheat and pesticide-free vegetables, and in its extension they began to use cage-free eggs.

*Bakery Kanro Iori (Urayasu city, Chiba prefecture)

They have only used cage-free eggs for 9 years to make bread. They originally thought to make additive free bread, that’s why they started to use cage-free eggs.

*Cocco Terrace (Eiko farm)  (Sapporo city, Hokkaido)

Cage-free eggs are used in all sweets such as pancake, pudding at the cafe annexed to the cage-free poultry.

Freeing animals from cages is minimum and natural animal welfare.

Cage rearing that completely ignores animal habits is too inhumane. To end this unethical breeding practice, we need a corporate decision not to support caged eggs, as well as many public voices.

Cage rearing is scientifically known to make hens very distressed. It is important that neither companies nor consumers support this cruel breeding method by using caged eggs.
