Someone contacted the Animal Rights Center this month saying that there is an inn that has switched to cage free.Checking in with the inn, it seems that all the eggs handled from April 1 have been switched to cage-free eggs. The owner said,There has been a demand for cage-free eggs for a long time, and we wanted to make it an inn that could meet the needs of our customers as much as possible, so we switched to cage-free. I also wanted to make animal-friendly choices from an animal perspective.According to the person who contacted the Animal Rights Center, four months after requesting that eggs be cage-free because caging chickens is cruel, she received an email informing her that they had switched to cage-free.We can say that their response and choice were very respectful of the customers. They listened to consumers’ opinions that battery cages are against animal welfare, decided that cage rearing was unethical, and courageously shifted from traditional practices to a more animal- and human-friendly choice. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for their choice. What is cage rearing? In cage rearing, which is the common rearing method for eggs in Japan, chickens are placed in cages and are overcrowded in order to prioritize productivity. As a result, chickens are susceptible to illness due to lack of exercise, and drugs are used to prevent the spread of illness. In Japan, over 90% of the farms use battery cage rearing. It’s misleading to say that that’s healthy, and it’s definitely not natural.Caged chickens On the other hand, there do exist a few cage-free egg farms, which allow chickens to roam.Cage-free rearing (not the farm used by the featured business, another cage-free farm.)Cage rearing is being abolished all over the world, but Japan’s animal welfare is currently far behind.A simple thing we can do to reduce the number of hens who continue getting exploited in their cages and go through life immobilized is for the consumers to stop buying cage-reared eggs and eliminate your egg consumption.People who become aware of the actual situations and make humane and ethical choices today are what will lead to a sustainable future.Click here for a list of other cage-free companies and shopsClick to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on X (Opens in new window)Share This Previous Article“BROILER MEI” WINS FILM AWARD Next ArticleThe Value of Animal Lives Livestock housing exempted from the Building Standards Act 2021/04/19
