Cocoropan and Sakurasaku Farm are cage-free

In response to an inquiry from Animal Rights Center Japan, Cocoropan in Kitaurawa City, Saitama, responded that all the eggs they use are already cage free and that they would support the cage-free declaration.

The owner said,

We oppose rearing that disregards the lives of animals.  Our desire is to make bread that are kind to the earth so that everyone can cherish their lives, not only human beings.  Therefore, I would like to use natural products like eggs from chickens who have grown naturally.  We also sell ancient wheat bread, which is a favorite among vegans.

In response to an inquiry from Animal Rights Center Japan, Sakurasaku Farm in Akaiwa City, Okayama, responded that all the eggs they use are already cage free and that they would support the cage-free declaration.

The owner said,

I would like to use eggs laid by healthy chickens raised in cage free.  I feel the difference from eggs from unhealthy chickens.

In addition to selling milk-egg and egg-free bread, they also make rice without using pesticides or chemical fertilizers and sell rice flour bread.

Both stores kindly agreed to declare cage free.  Both stores produce in line with “nature” and “essence”.  In the first place, living animals should never be kept in tiny cages for their entire lives just to increase their productivity and treat them like machines.

There is an urgent need to end such human-centric, unnatural and selfish production and switch to more natural and ethical production and consumption.

What is cage rearing?

In cage rearing, which is the common rearing method for eggs in Japan, chickens are placed in cages and are overcrowded in order to prioritize productivity.

As a result, chickens are susceptible to illness due to lack of exercise, and drugs are used to prevent the spread of illness.

In Japan, over 90% of the farms use battery cage rearing.

It’s misleading to say that that’s healthy, and it’s definitely not natural.

On the other hand, there do exist a few cage-free egg farms, which allow chickens to roam.

Cage rearing is being abolished all over the world, but Japan’s animal welfare is currently far behind.

A simple thing we can do to reduce the number of hens who continue getting exploited in their cages and go through life immobilized is for the consumers to stop buying cage-reared eggs and eliminate your egg consumption.

People who become aware of the actual situations and make humane and ethical choices today are what will lead to a sustainable future.
