Although the SDGs have become widespread in Japan, only a small number of people still know about “animal welfare.” Wondering if we could create opportunities for children to learn about it from an early age, the Animal Rights Center’s children’s project team created these picture books. First, the digital versions have been completed and are now available for download.
Please make use of them in street outreach in places where there are many children and families, and at children’s events such as read-aloud sessions and story times. We are also preparing printed versions, and plan to make them available to order from the Animal Rights Center official website, just like our flyers.

“Huh? The beak…”
This story is based on the real experiences of a junior high school student who participates in our activities as a volunteer with the Animal Rights Center. The illustrations were also drawn by the student with heartfelt intention.

“The Day Life Stopped Being a ‘Thing’”
This is the story of a boy who realizes how the meat he has been eating is made, and begins to change himself. Try reading it as if it were about you. It comes in two versions: a hiragana version and a kanji version.

“The Miracle of Eight Pigs”
This is the story of eight pigs rescued by the Animal Rights Center. We introduce each pig one by one as they live freely at the sanctuary. A video version has also been released on YouTube.

“We Want to Deliver Water to the Pigs in Their Final Moments”
This picture book appeals about the current situation in Japan, where few slaughterhouses have watering facilities, in an easy-to-read format. Please also watch the video version on YouTube.
