Petition Launched to Install Permanent Drinking Water Equipment in Slaughterhouse Holding Pens!

In Japanese slaughterhouses, the issue remains that pigs and cattle waiting in holding pens are not provided with water. In an era where summer temperatures exceed 35 degrees Celsius for consecutive days even in Hokkaido, it is far too cruel to slaughter animals after keeping them without water for several hours to nearly 24 hours, especially under overcrowded conditions. During the summer, animals in transit can sometimes be seen gasping for breath or foaming at the mouth.

The latest survey conducted by the certified NPO Animal Rights Center revealed that drinking water equipment is not installed in 47% of pig slaughterhouses and 22% of cattle slaughterhouses.

To resolve this issue, the Animal Rights Center will submit a petition to domestic slaughterhouses, relevant local governments, and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, calling for the installation of permanent drinking water equipment in slaughterhouse holding pens. We are launching an online petition to be included as part of the submission materials.
